JOHN MINCZESKI

HEAR ME TALKING: A CONVERSATION IN MUSIC AND POETRY

Poetry and music have always gone together, from song lyrics to the setting of poems to music. John Minczeski and composer and improviser Carei Thomas present a poetry reading and interactive performance that is filled with literary and musical surprises. Help John write a collective poem using similes and metaphors. Learn how Carei composes and improvises on a keyboard with limited use of his hands.

DANCE THAT DARES

Experience a variety of aesthetics ranging from classical ballet to 21st century innovative dance. Ten company and apprentice ensemble members perform, engage, and inspire the audience to understand the beauty, rigors and diversity of dance.

Participate in a dance class experiencing the rigors aof technique through a variety of dance aesthetics. Learn movements from specific pieces in the MDT/DI repertoire.

DOTS AND FEATHERS

Dots and Feathers uses humor, dance and music as a bridge to cross-cultural understanding. Rita Mustaphi explains “when we think of Asian Indians we think of dots on their forehead, as we associate American Indians with feathers in their hair.” Rita and Larry demonstrate dances that celebrate life’s milestones in each of their cultures. The message speaks to love, harmony and beauty among all people and religions and expresses the importance of respect and tolerance of all communities.
