	NEW PROGRAMS
			BROTHER JOHN ANDERSON AFRICAN FOLKTALES Join motivational griot Brother John in this interactive program showcasing timeless values of classic African folktales through story, rhythm and music. Listen to the djembe, nicknamed the healing drum, and also known as the world’s first telephone. Type: Performance Grades: 3-8 Note: Maximum audience of 250 JOHN MINCZESKI HEAR ME TALKING: A CONVERSATION IN MUSIC AND POETRY Poetry and music have always gone together, from song lyrics to the setting of poems to music. John Minczeski and composer and improviser Carei Thomas present a poetry reading and interactive performance that is filled with literary and musical surprises. Help John write a collective poem using similes and metaphors. Learn how Carei composes and improvises on a keyboard with limited use of his hands. Type: Performance Grades: 2-6
			MINNESOTA DANCE THEATRE AND THE DANCE INSTITUTE DANCE THAT DARES Experience a variety of aesthetics ranging from classical ballet to 21st century innovative dance. Ten company and apprentice ensemble members perform, engage, and inspire the audience to understand the beauty, rigors and diversity of dance. Type: Performance Grades: K-12 DANCE THAT DARES Participate in a dance class experiencing the rigors aof technique through a variety of dance aesthetics. Learn movements from specific pieces in the MDT/DI repertoire. Type: Workshop Grades: K-12
			RITA MUSTAPHI AND LARRY YAZZIE DOTS AND FEATHERS Dots and Feathers uses humor, dance and music as a bridge to cross-cultural understanding. Rita Mustaphi explains “when we think of Asian Indians we think of dots on their forehead, as we associate American Indians with feathers in their hair.” Rita and Larry demonstrate dances that celebrate life’s milestones in each of their cultures. The message speaks to love, harmony and beauty among all people and religions and expresses the importance of respect and tolerance of all communities.
